If you’re like me, you’ve grown tired of all the “National This Days” and “National That Days.”

It seems like a day doesn’t go by without someone telling us it’s a day for something … or in some cases, many things.

Supposedly, there are 1,500 “national [fill-in-the-blank] days” a year.

There are only 365 days in the year (most years). So, do the math ...

For example: I love avocados … but I don’t need a day on the calendar to remind me that it’s a good idea to eat one.

Same with olives.

And yes, chocolate.

But I just wanted to take a break from my soap-boxing to let you know that tomorrow is a pretty special day.

Tomorrow is the last Saturday in September … which means that in the US of A, it’s “National Family Fitness Day.”

To me, this is a pretty cool day.

Perhaps, the coolest.

Because it’s a chance for every member of every family to come together and do something positive … for themselves, and for each other.

I can’t think of a better, more productive, or healthier way for a family to spend time together than some form of physical activity.

Never mind the obvious physical health benefits. The mental and emotional benefits … not to mention getting the kids off their devices for a couple of hours … speak for themselves.

If you’d like to participate with your family, here are a few ways you can do it:

Organize a Family Workout: This doesn’t have to be like American Ninja Warrior. You could simply go for a walk or play some flag football or Frisbee.

Invite Your Pet: If you have a pet, involve them in physical games or activities. Dogs, especially, love this. They’ll think it’s “National Dog Day.” :-)

Kitchen Clean-Up: Depending on how old your kids are, this one could get a little dicey. But in theory, you could gather the family together in the kitchen, toss out all the sweets and processed foods (or, better yet, donate them), and go grocery shopping together so you can replace them with healthier options.

Whatever you decide to do, go ahead and post a picture or video in our Facebook group or on your social media channel of choice. Tag the gym, and use the hashtag #familyhealthandfitnessdayUSA.

Looking forward to seeing how you participate!
