Don’t Hire A Trainer (unless….)

If you’re on the fence about hiring a personal trainer…

These 5 situations may warrant an expert with knowledge on program design, exercises selection, and nutritional foundations.

…and this exactly when a hiring a knowledgeable personal trainer can come in handy:

1. If You’re New To Working Out

Exercise can be complicated. First, you need to know what to do…how often you should go…and how long you should be spending at the gym. For a beginner, this can be a challenge. But hiring a trainer can take the guesswork out of things. A trainer can design a program according to your goal(s) and they will work within your limitations to make sure you’re doing everything right—the first time. Once you’re comfortable on your own, you can either retain them a few times a month, or you can cut them loose. This also takes in to account those who have been injured while working out in larger group formats. We see a lot of folks who have had this happen to them before, so they seek out a more qualified individual to help them along the road to recovery.

2. You’re Bored

Doing the same routine—over and over again—can get boring, which is no fun when you’re trying to stay motivated to exercise each day. Hiring a trainer can prevent boredom by changing up your routine, and giving you different challenges during each session. This variety can help you break through plateaus, and give you a fresh take on your new routine. Nothing worse than going into the gym with no plan. You tend to meander around and nothing gets accomplished.

3. You’ve Stopped Seeing Results

If you’ve been exercising for quite some time, then you know how challenging it may be to keep going—especially if you’ve stopped seeing results. A knowledgeable trainer can evaluate your workout, and advise you on things that need to be changed to get you over the hump. Plus, each session will be different—with varying intensities—which could jumpstart your results once again.

4. You’re Looking For A Challenge

Maybe you want to run a marathon…or complete a triathlon. Whatever the challenge is, a trainer can help get you there. A trainer can build the appropriate program to prepare you for the challenge…they can also add varying progressions to help you get ready for the big day. A trainer can also push you with the right intensity, without causing injury. Accept the Challenge and stick to the plan.

5. You Need Motivation

Hitting the gym each day can be challenging—especially with other things you’d like to be doing. But a trainer can provide the motivation needed to stick with your training schedule. This holds you accountable, and forces you to make a commitment to your training. Plus, if you’re paying for a trainer, breaking your commitment can cost you your hard-earned money. And no one wants to lose money—which is a very good motivator.

If you’ve been on the fence about hiring a trainer, then these 5 reasons can push you in the right direction. A trainer takes the time to evaluate your program, makes the right adjustment and changes, and pushes you through roadblocks preventing you from reaching your goals. If you’re a beginner—or you just want to tackle a new challenge—then your first item of business should be hiring a trainer to make sure you’re on the right path.
