Injury Assessment

Once we completed the Nutrition overview and got Emanuel back on track with his increased calories, we started to look current or previous injury Assessment.

This is one thing I take seriously while developing a training program.

- How many previous injuries has the athlete had?

- Do they have any current injuries they are dealing with?

-Have they ever had any broken bones or anything that will prevent them from doing certain exercises?

-Are they currently seeing anyone to help with the recovery process for their injury?

While taking all of these things into consideration it gives me a better idea on how I can program the workouts moving forward.

-Do I need to work with a physical therapist to develop a better plan?

-Do I need to progress at a slower rate?

All of these thoughts run through your head, but at the end of the day if I am doing whats best for the athlete only time will tell in regards to progress.

As far as Emanuel goes, he was coming out of PT with an ankle injury that required a significant amount of repair. The Physical Therapy aspect was the most grueling because he had to learn how to walk again.

By walk again, I mean since he had been on crutches for quite some time. It doesn’t feel the same since he had been immobile.

Once he was cleared and back to 100 percent, we started to implement some of the exercises he was doing in physical therapy as an extension and addition to what all else was in store to get him back in shape.
